The PagerDuty Summit Practitioner: What’s In It for Me?

by Joseph Mandros August 6, 2019 | 3 min read

Are you a practitioner looking to attend the speaking sessions at PagerDuty Summit 2019 and want to get into the weeds with the PagerDuty developer community? This year, the PagerDuty Community Team is drumming up many special activities that puts users at the front lines of real-time operations. I am here as a Community Insider (I’m not on the Community team; I’m just nosy and ask a ton of questions) to give you a sneak peek at some of the Community Team’s plans to make sure you can plan ahead and get the most out of your Summit experience.

Chaos Engineering Workshop

Chaos engineering is an influential developer practice that has burst into the mainstream and is redefining the way software is built in the enterprise. We’re excited to announce that we are hosting a Chaos Engineering Workshop led by Bruce Wong, Director of Engineering at Stitchfix. Wong will present randomized table-top exercises in which teams of attendees will work together to remediate the incident before it “negatively impacts the business.” Attendance will be on a first-come, first-served basis and space is limited, so make sure you plan ahead!

Birds of a Feather (BoF) Luncheon

To encourage more discussion among attendees, we will be hosting a structured BoF luncheon. Attendees will be able to eat and then participate in two BoFs on pre-selected topics. Topics include:

  • Monolith of Microservices
  • Tech Ethics
  • Chaos Engineering War Stories
  • Serverless
  • DevSecOps

And more! Make sure to opt into the BoF Luncheon during your Summit registration process and select your top interests as it is a first-come, first-served event, and space is limited to 100 participants.

PagerDuty Breakathon

Our popular Breakathon event is back and better than ever! The Breakathon is similar to a hackathon but with “breaks” to investigate in order to win the game. To solve the mystery of the game, you’ll need to SSH into the application hosts, use the clues to diagnose the problem, and fix it as quickly as possible.

The Breakathon will give you a chance to solve tough operational infrastructure mysteries, test our your best hunches, and enjoy some food and drinks with the local DevOps community. So put on your digital Sherlock Holmes cap and join us for Breakathon on September 23 to test out your ops chops.

Developer Resource Center

Throughout the event, the Community Team will be present to chat with you at our Developer Resource Center (DRC). The booth space will be hosted by some of our subject matter experts to discuss and answer questions about everything PagerDuty. You will have the opportunity to meet the authors of some of our Ops Guides and thought leadership docs, and ask about developer best practices and recommendations.

Our Developer Ecosystem Team will also be at the DRC and would love to hear what you’re doing with the PagerDuty API and get feedback from you for future enhancements. So make sure to stop by and show off what you’re building and ask us any questions you may have!
