Expanding Our Impact: PagerDuty.org Funds Organizations at the Intersections of Healthcare and Sustainability

by Nisha Kadaba November 19, 2024 | 5 min read

At PagerDuty.org, we have a strong track record of supporting tech-forward organizations working to improve healthcare outcomes for underserved communities and address the social determinants of health. As we continue to evolve our work to meet urgent challenges, we are expanding our focus to support areas adjacent to time-critical health and climate technology, including food security and renewable energy.

By investing in organizations addressing critical issues at the intersections of healthcare and sustainability, we believe we create a more comprehensive and scalable approach to realizing our vision of a more equitable world and sustainable future. Climate change, and the associated health and environmental hazards it causes, disproportionately impact under-resourced communities the most. This funding aims to:

  • Improve health outcomes by addressing the root causes of poor health, such as lack of access to nutritious food and reliable energy.
  • Enhance the resilience and sustainability of healthcare systems by supporting the development of renewable energy and reducing the environmental impact of healthcare.
  • Foster more equitable and just communities by promoting energy and food security for marginalized and underserved populations.

In addition to general operating funding, these organizations will receive technical expertise and volunteer support from PagerDuty employees, as well as robust storytelling and message amplification opportunities. Meet our partners
Lemontree logoLemontree connects hungry people to free food using data and technology to improve food security and reduce food waste. The organization works with food banks, pantries, and other organizations to optimize food access and reduce hunger in communities, serving over 10,000 households daily. With PagerDuty’s support, Lemontree will scale its operations to deepen its reach in the regions it serves and strengthen its technological infrastructure and software to meet the increasing needs of its communities and clients.

“Lemontree exists to ensure that accessing food assistance is an easy, reliable, and dignified experience for everyone. It makes no sense for our neighbors to go hungry when there’s free food around the corner.”
– Kasumi Quinlan, Executive Director and Co-Founder at Lemontree

Plentiful logoPlentiful is a free, easy-to-use digital tool that connects people seeking food to food banks or pantries through its mobile app for neighbors and back-end intake platform for providers. Since 2016, Plentiful has connected more than 5.5 million total household members to free food resources by improving dignity and privacy for neighbors at food pantries, cutting wait times, and helping to manage food distribution. PagerDuty’s funding will help the Plentiful team optimize its digital infrastructure and continue to expand its services toward its mission of creating a more connected, efficient, and most of all human-centered food access ecosystem.

“With PagerDuty’s support, we’re able to strengthen our infrastructure and enhance our monitoring capabilities, ensuring uninterrupted access to food pantries for the communities we serve. This partnership empowers us to proactively maintain our platform, minimizing disruptions and allowing us to continue connecting neighbors to the vital food resources they need.”
– Bryan Moran, Product Director at Plentiful

WattTime logoWattTime is an environmental tech nonprofit that works with governments, corporations, and utilities to slash emissions and choose cleaner energy. Founded by UC Berkeley researchers, it develops data-driven tools and policies to implement renewable energy solutions and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. With PagerDuty’s support, WattTime will continue to eliminate the world’s emissions data divide — and the inequitable approach to the energy transition — with the first-ever electricity marginal emissions dataset covering nearly every country and region, which can be leveraged to save the world more than nine gigatons of carbon emissions annually.

“Thinking globally when siting renewables generation can displace outsized amounts of GHG emissions, in addition to economic and human health benefits. We’re very excited to have PagerDuty’s support in raising awareness of these benefits among decision-makers in Global South countries.”
– Eric Nguyen, Chief Product Officer at WattTime

Supporting Renewable Energy Projects Through Our Business Sustainability Goals
PagerDuty is committed to setting and achieving climate targets aligned with the Paris Agreement’s goals and has had these targets validated by the Science-Based Targets Institute (SBTi). Achieving our science-based targets, in part, requires investing in renewable energy by reducing our energy consumption and matching the remainder with Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).

We are proud to share that we have selected Stacked RECs offered by the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF). Our investment in these Stacked RECs serves two purposes:

First, we have procured RECs that match 100% of our company’s electricity consumption, reducing our net Scope 2 emissions (marked-based) to zero. Second, the premium associated with the Stacked REC purchase was used to invest in additional projects that further our social investments in climate equity. We further augmented the Stacked REC purchase with a direct philanthropic donation from the PagerDuty.org fund.

PagerDuty’s Stacked REC purchase and philanthropic funding will support the Tribal Renewable Energy Fund, managed by the Bonneville Environmental Foundation to build community, resilience, and energy independence on Indigenous Lands. Tribal renewable energy programs provide much-needed energy independence, resilience, and reduced energy costs to tribal nations while supporting hands-on workforce development and local STEM education.

We encourage other companies to consider purchasing Stacked RECs that help achieve their organization’s business sustainability goals and support social and environmental equity projects.

At PagerDuty.org, we empower mission-driven teams to build a more equitable world and sustainable future. We understand this work requires a commitment to both innovation and long-term systems change which is why we continue to invest in tech-forward organizations that focus on solving intractable challenges.
