PagerDuty Sets Science-Based Climate Targets
At PagerDuty, embracing sustainability helps us identify efficiencies by conserving resources, partnering with key customers on shared sustainable practices and attracting top talent who want to work for a responsible company.
We have recently taken a big step forward in our sustainability journey by developing climate targets, which set specific and ambitious goals for reducing our carbon emissions. PagerDuty has received approval for these targets from the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
According to SBTi:
“The SBTi’s Target Validation Team has classified your company’s scope 1 and 2 target ambition and has determined that it is in line with a 1.5°C trajectory. The SBTi commends your ambitious 1.5°C-aligned target, currently the most ambitious designation available through the SBTi process.”
PagerDuty has set the following science-based (1.5°C-aligned) climate targets covering its full greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions:
- PagerDuty commits to reduce its combined absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 42% by FY2030 from a FY2023 base year.
- PagerDuty commits to increase its active annual sourcing of renewable electricity from 0% in FY2023 to 100% by FY2030.
- PagerDuty commits to reduce its absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 25% by FY2030 from a FY2023 base year.
Setting these targets is a meaningful step towards our commitment in FY2022 to support the global need to limit global warming to 1.5 °C to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. We will have to examine each of our key business practices and partnerships to identify ways to work within our ecosystem to decarbonize our business – that is, to separate value creation for our stakeholders and shareholders from the emissions of greenhouse gases resulting from our daily activities.
You can follow our decarbonization journey on the PagerDuty Impact Hub. As I told our Board of Directors earlier this year, who are very supportive of our ESG work, we are setting these climate targets because it’s the right thing to do – and our sustainability team continues to find fiscally responsible means to achieve these decarbonization goals.
