You’ve Been Accepted: PagerDuty University

Last year at PagerDuty Summit 2018, we officially launched PagerDuty University (PDU), a training program that provides hands-on classroom training to current and prospective customers so they can get the most out of the PagerDuty platform.

Since its debut, PDU has taught hundreds of learners how they can optimize their instances to minimize downtime and improve responders’ quality of on-call life, in addition to providing thought leadership best practices to customers around the globe.

Today, we’re excited to announce that in addition to popular PDU tracks from last year, PDU is back at Summit 2019 with new courses—check out the updates below!

Mitigating Business Disruption

Incident Response Track

A favorite from last year, Mitigating Business Disruption takes a deep dive into PagerDuty’s internal incident response process, which we’ve iterated on for the past 10 years.

This course is suitable for on-call responders and admins, and is optimal for anyone looking to establish their own incident response process or is involved with creating an incident response process at their organization. In this course, we’ll cover how you can:

Managing Incident Response Teams

Incident Response Track

Learn and develop the critical skills you need in order to manage successful Incident Response teams. This workshop presents an overview of the Incident Response process with a focus on managing expectations for executive stakeholders, addressing key operational challenges, and practical skills for managing team health. We also cover organizational concepts like shifting teams towards a model of full service ownership, enabling blameless culture, and driving continuous improvement.

This course is optimal for on-call responders and admins, as well as for anyone looking to establish their own incident response process or is involved in creating an incident response process at their organization. It is also suitable for attendees who may have not yet started using PagerDuty.

By attending this workshop, you’ll be able to:

  • Understand how to align the needs incident responders with executive stakeholders
  • Implement business incident response plans for communication beyond technical details
  • Structure blameless postmortems and support continuous improvement for your teams
  • Run operational health reviews to proactively monitor team health

Mastering Digital Services

Technical Track

Developed due to popular demand, Mastering Digital Services is a new course that guides you through the entire set-up process for your services. As the PagerDuty platform has evolved over the years, so too have our best practices surrounding enhanced old services and constructing new services.

Every team has a workflow specific to them, from response plays to escalation policies, and this course provides tips on how to best set up your services so you can have a full picture of your infrastructure health.

By attending this workshop, you’ll be able to:

  • Develop a model where software development teams own their production operating stack
  • Structure services within PagerDuty to support a full service ownership model
  • Understand how to use event management to mitigate alert fatigue
  • Structure and conduct blameless postmortems

This course is optimal for PagerDuty users who have access to create services and integrations within the platform, such as admins and managers, but may not be as suitable for on-call responders and end users.
